Developmental Therapy Overview

About Developmental Therapy

Developmental Therapy is used with autism spectrum children and those with developmental delays. The core deficits of children with autism spectrum disorders include social competence and emotional control. While children of differing degrees of autism can vary greatly in their capabilities, experts agree that all autism spectrum children share these characteristics of being emotionally volatile and unable to relate to others.

Floortime /DIR (Developmental, Individual Difference, Relationship Based Therapy: Developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan, the premise of Floortime is that autistic children can be taught how to relate to others provided they are engaged at their own interest and ability level.
